In the age of information overload, we usually forget the art of living. This blog post is on how to simplify the life and get the life back on track. In most of the cases, our daily life starts with emails and ends with emails. We bring our stress to our bed and it makes very difficult for us to sleep and leads us to hypertension and stress. Many times we are physically present and our mind is wandering here are there. This increases the lost focus issue and at the end, it is difficult for us to achieve our goals.
1: Do not disturb
All the latest mobile phones are coming with DND facility. Once DND is activated, it will help you to disconnect from the internet and unnecessary notification that may affect your sleep / work. You can also configure the notification / call settings as per your needs. If you are working on something important, I would suggest activating the DND mode. If something urgent happens, you are still reachable and anyone can call and inform you.
2: Not all emails are urgent
It is not required to reply to all the emails at the same time. You can communicate with your customers / contacts to mark an email as urgent when needed and change the communication method. This will help you to process the urgent tasks on time without losing focus.
You can also define one day a week for email cleanup, for example I cleanup my all the emails on Sunday evening, before the next week starts. This helps me to check what is pending for the week past and plan for the coming week in advance.
3: Understand the difference between “Need” and “Want”
We usually buy/collect the things that we do not need but just for the social status, we purchase and keep them in the home. These things not only waste the home space but also costs money for the maintenance. Before buying anything, ask your self do I really need this? If I purchase this then will it solve any purpose? If any of the answer is “No” , do not purchase it.
Declutter everything that you do not need. You can start de-cluttering the things from your table. The thing that you do not use for a month you can remove them by either donating or selling. Less things will help you focus more and it will help you become productive.
These are some ways to simplify the life. Please feel free to drop me a note or share your ideas in text box below that can help others to simplify the life.
